Community Champions aim to make a difference

New Plymouth District Council are seeking volunteers to look after their own residential block and keep it free of litter, graffiti and vandalism as part of a new ‘Community Champions’ project.

Community Champions aim to make a difference

Craig Cambell-Smart (NPDC) makes being a Community Champion a family affair

The scheme encourages local residents who regularly walk around their neighbourhood to sign up and agree to pick up rubbish and to report any broken glass or vandalism to the council.

Craig Campbell-Smart, community development advisor with the Council and New Plymouth injurySafe Trust member, was one of the first to sign up to the scheme and is pictured left with his first bag of litter picked up around his street (with the help of his son and his dog of course!).

Community Champions receive an initial health and safety briefing and will receive occasional invitations to get together with other community champions working throughout the district.

If you would like to sign up as a Community Champion, please visit the New Plymouth District Council Council website.
