Marfell Re-development Project
Marfell Re-development Project
The Marfell Re-development Project is collaboration between Housing New Zealand Corporation (HNZC) and New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) to undertake a comprehensive urban renewal of Housing New Zealand properties and council owned and controlled areas. The first stage of the Marfell Re-development Project has been to establish a set of common goals that will co-ordinate developments and improvements undertaken by both HNZC and NPDC. In particular:
- Roading network improvements
- Open space developments
- Integrate storm water disposal with existing wetlands on parks land
- Social housing concentration.
- Home ownership and housing type mix
- Identify a site suitable for a community centre/urban marae
The Marfell Project Combined Outcomes are to:
- Foster enhanced social cohesion in the wider Marfell Area.
- Create healthy and secure environments for people to work, play and live.
- Reduce crime.
- Meet unmet demand for adequate and affordable housing.
- Contribute to the creation of a sustainable Marfell community.
Project management will be undertaken by Housing New Zealand. New Plymouth District Council has made a commitment to collaboration with the project. Engagement with the Marfell Community and Iwi are also key factors in the process and representation on the project board, and consultation and communication plan are also being developed.
