Youth Projects
A number of local crime prevention initiatives aimed at young people are running through the New Plymouth District...
A number of projects, aimed at young people, are taking place in New Plymouth. These activities are supported by the district council's Community Development Team which employs four Community Development advisors, one of whom is responsible for Community Safety and Crime Prevention activities.
These projects, which are funded by the Ministry of Justice, include the following:
- School based education programmes targeting year 10 students with messages of respect, responsibility and relating
- Waitara Community Profile - a collaborative 'community-led' initiative to inform future activity and action in Waitara
- Marfell Community Profile - participatory research project to develop collective community vision and collaborative initiatives to address community need
- Graffiti reduction activities within the New Plymouth District
- Creative youth holiday programe targeting at risk youth over peak graffiti vandalism periods
