Paracetamol Poisoning Prevention (PPP)

Taranaki has a higher rate of childhood poisonings than the national rate. Research by Kidsafe Taranaki Trust has found that a large percentage of unintentional poisonings of children are from paracetamol poisoning.

The Paracetamol Poisoning Prevention Project is a partnership between Peak Health Taranaki, Kidsafe Taranaki Trust, local GPs and Community Pharmacists. The project provides information and advice to parents of young children prescribed paracetamol aimed at preventing paracetamol poisoning.

Parents are provided an information pack that contains guidance about dosage and storage of paracetamol, along with free cupboard latches that can be attached to kitchen cupboards where medication is stored.
