Taranaki Falls Strategy Group
The Taranaki Falls Strategy Group is a multi-agency group that aims to improve coordination of falls prevention services across Taranaki. The group includes representation from Taranaki DHB provider arm services, ACC, primary care, home-based support services, rest homes, Sport Taranaki, Age Concern, Taranaki Disability Information Centre, AccessAbility and other local service providers. The main focus of the group is on reducing falls in the older population and a number of older people who have experienced a fall are members of the group.
The group is chaired by the NPiS Safe Community Programme Manager and meets quarterly. Membership of the group is open to anyone with an interest in falls prevention. The group communicates with the wider falls prevention network through a quarterly falls prevention newsletter called "Keeping Up". The newsletter is circulated following each strategy group meeting and provides updates on the progress of the group's activities.
The group have developed a Taranaki Falls Prevention Strategy that is closely aligned with the National Falls Prevention Strategy. Consultation with local older people forms an important part of the ongoing development of this strategy.
