Busy afternoon at Marfell Wellbeing Day
Around 70 older people turned out for the Keeping Well in Marfell wellbeing day on 31st March ensuring that stallholders were kept busy all afternoon.
Organisations present on the day included Age Concern, Taranaki Disability Centre, Parkinsons Society, New Plymouth Police and the Taranaki District Health Board's Public Health Unit. Information was available on a wide range of safety issues including crime prevention, gambling, flu vaccination, falls prevention, food safety and mobility scooters.
Visitors enjoyed a taster session of Tai Chi as well as a gentle exercise session led by Diana Brown, exercise tutor from "Move it or Lose it". Other activities included a practical mobility scooter training session and live music from Marion Rivers. Age Concern offered health checks during the afternoon and, as always, there was plenty of afternoon tea on offer!
The Marfell wellbeing day was one of a series of mini wellbeing events being held each month over the summer period. The final one will take place on 21st April at Owae Marae in Waitara. Information on this event can be found in our Events section.
