Age Concern staff, Eileen Hall and Helen Collins, were kept busy providing health checks at the Older Persons Wellbeing Day, held in Fitzroy on 24th February. The event was part of an ongoing programme of Wellbeing events aimed at raising awareness of falls risk factors and promoting local falls prevention services.

As well as the free health checks, visitors were treated to a Modified Tai Chi taster session, keep fit to music and afternoon tea. For those who brought along mobility scooters, the Disability Centre were on hand to lead a practical safety workshop through a tiki tour of local streets.

Local service providers providing information and advice at the event included Taranaki Disability Centre, New Plymouth injury Safe, Sport Taranaki, Peak Health Taranaki, Problem Gambling Foundation, Heart Foundation, Access Ability, Age Concern, People First, Chubb Medical Alarms and Parkinsons Society.

The events are free to the public, thanks to funding from Roadsafe Taranaki and ACC.
