Tai Chi training is huge success

The basic training workshop, funded by ACC and New Plymouth injury Safe, aimed to teach participants how to deliver modified Tai Chi to groups of older people. The training was run by Toi Walker who has been delivering the instructor training across New Zealand on behalf of ACC for several years. Toi was trained himself by Tai Chi Master Trainer, Dr Paul Lam.

Feedback from the training was excellent. Comments made by participants included:

"The trainer (Toi) was the best of the best"

"Relaxed trainer and easy atmosphere"

"...mostly I learned the benefits of Tai Chi for the residents and myself"

"Keep up the good work. I can really see the benefits of this wonderful exercise"

Those who attended the training will be encouraged to go on and deliver modified Tai Chi within community settings and rest homes.

Kath Forde (ACC Injury Prevention Consultant) was very pleased with how the training went.

"I was really impressed by how enthusiastic everyone was and how much they seemed to get out of it. It is great that we have a new group of trainers available locally to pass on the benefits of modified Tai Chi to our local older population" she said.
