Green Prescription

Green Prescription is a prescription for exercise written by a Doctor or Practice Nurse and it is available for all ages, including over 65's.

The Green Prescription programme is offered across Taranaki and is delivered by Sport Taranaki. To access the scheme you simply make an appointment with your GP or Practice Nurse (or other health professional) and ask them for a Green Prescription.

Once you have visited your health professional, the Green Prescription is faxed to Sport Taranaki who will then contact you to discuss how you can become more active. You will receive a resource pack of information on how to start a walking programme, join a gym or the pool, plus information on medical conditions and exercise. Your exercise is recorded on an Activity Record Card which helps you keep track of the exercise you are doing as well as helping to motivate you.

You will receive follow up support from Sport Taranaki as you progress through your exercise programme.

The Green Prescription programme was recently extended to include Rest Home residents. To access the scheme, the Registered Nurse can refer individual residents (or, if enough people are interested, a group of residents). If a group of residents are interested in becoming more active, it is possible that a group exercise session could be delivered within the Rest Home.
