What is Modified Tai Chi?

Tai Chi involves a series of slow, fluid, gentle movements that improve mobility, flexibility and balance. Modified Tai Chi is a style of Tai Chi Developed for older people that focuses on preventing falls by improving lower limb strength and balance.

Tai Chi has been shown to reduce falls by up to 47%. It works by improving fitness, muscle strength, balance and flexibility. It can also help improve blood pressure, blood sugar levels, cardiovascular function and can help manage the symptoms of arthritis by increasing mobility and reducing pain.

Modified Tai Chi is taught in group-based classes across Taranaki, usually in community halls. The programme involved 2 one-hour Tai Classes a week run for 20 weeks (a total of 40 classes)
