Older Persons Wellbeing Days

NPiS host a number of Wellbeing Days each year to raise awareness of the links between keeping fit and active in later life and preventing falls.

Our local older persons Wellbeing Days provide an opportunity for local service providers to promote their services. A number of organisations attend the wellbeing days including Taranaki DHB Physiotherapy, Age Concern, Sport Taranaki, Arthritis NZ, Parkinsons Society and the Taranaki Disability Centre. The Wellbeing Days provide a one-stop shop of information and advice for those interested in falls prevention and improving their general wellbeing.

Over the last 2 years Wellbeing Days have been held in a variety of venues, including a Marae and a Bowling Club! They are open to all and are free. As well as information stalls there are usually a number of activities to enjoy including Tai Chi, Keep Fit, bowls and massage/mirimiri. Health Checks and falls risk screening are often available also.

Please read our Kaumatua Wellbeing Day Evaluation Report for more information about our Wellbeing Days.

The video below, taken at a Wellbeing Day event held at Vogeltown Bowling Club in May 2009, shows some of the activities on offer at our Wellbeing Days.
