Taranaki Secondary Schools Agricultural Safety Challenge

A hands-on agricultural safety competition testing the knowledge and skills of agricultural students from secondary schools across Taranaki.

Schools compete as groups of four students and complete in a range of practical safety tasks including handling livestock, driving and ATV, chemical handling, first aid and handling firearms.

Students are assessed on their safety knowledge and practical skills as well as teamwork. The winning team takes away the TSS Agricultural Safety Trophy.

The event is organised by Gerard Karalus, Agriculture NZ, in partnership with New Plymouth Police, Red Cross, NZ Fire Service, Taratahi, Department of Labour, ACC and Francis Douglas College. The competition is open to all secondary schools in Taranaki.
