Rural Women share rural safety messages at Toko School
The Central Taranaki branch of Rural Women NZ provided country schools with an opportunity to find out more about rural safety through a fun and interactive safety day hosted by Toko School.
The day included a range of practical activities and demonstrations focusing on cycle safety, firearms, ATVs, school buses and fire safety.
Children from 4 central district primary schools took part at the fun day. They were treated to a BBQ lunch, and finished the day with a visit from Fire Safety heroes ‘Amber & Flint’.
Toko School children participated in a poster design competition prior to the safety day, and these were judged on the day by Rural Women NZ members.
The aim of the safety day was to increase children's awareness of hazards within the rural communities and how they can keep themselves safe. Organisations that supported on the day include NZ Fire Service, Cycle Advocacy Network, Taranaki Regional Council, Taratahi and Roadsafe Taranaki.
