Cookery demo starts with a serious message

Local fire service find healthy cookery demonstration is the perfect place to promote the 'Keep looking while you are cooking' message

Cookery demo starts with a serious message

Local Fire Safety Officer, Matt Crabtree, ensured that those who attended this year's "Young At Heart" wellbeing day took home a very visual fire safety message after he (deliberately!) set a saucepan alight during a cookery demonstration.

Older people at the wellbeing event sat down to watch a healthy cookery demonstration, but not before finding out how they could safely control a small stove fire and how to get help in the event of a home fire. Matt also spoke to visitors about the importance of having working smoke alarms and told them that the fire service would respond personally to any requests for help changing smoke alarm batteries.

Fire crews were also on hand during the day to advise visitors on fire safety and to check smoke alarms that were brought in to the event. They ran a competition during the day with a number of free smoke alarms up for grabs.

For more information on how the Fire Service can help with installation of smoke alarms and changing batteries please contact the New Plymouth Fire Station on 06 757 3860.
