Fatigue
- Fatigue is a physiological condition that can occur long before you falls asleep at the wheel. It has a negative impact on your reaction time, your ability to concentrate and your general understanding of the road and traffic around you.
-
Speed
- Speed is the single biggest factor in fatal road crashes each year. Speeds have been falling and there is greater awareness that driving at speed is dangerous but each year there are still more than 100 fatal crashes in which someone was driving too fast for the conditions.
-
Restraints
- Wearing a safety belt reduces the risk of being killed or seriously injured in a road crash by about 40%, yet on average around 8% of people still choose not to wear one.
-
Alcohol
- Alcohol and drugs are one of the major contributing factors to road related trauma. Driver alcohol or drugs are involved in up to a third of fatal road traffic crashes.
