Restraints
Wearing a safety belt reduces the risk of being killed or seriously injured in a road crash by about 40%, yet on average around 8% of people still choose not to wear one.
Local projects related to restraints focus in increasing the number of correctly restrained toddlers and babies and ensuring seat belts are worn by all adults and children too big for child restraints.

Local initiatives include:
- Restraint education delivered to parents/carers of babies and toddlers in areas of need
- Quality training for child restraint fitters through Safe2Go training
- Roadside checks at Kindergartens and schools
- Booster seat checks for 4-7 year olds
- Voluntary child restraint checks organised by Kidsafe Taranaki Trust (usually held in Supermarket car parks)
- Roadsafe Taranaki supportively collaborate police education and enforcement programmes aimed at adults with a particular focus on targeting non-compliant motorists
- Education and promotion of seat-belt wearing through use of the Roadsafe Taranaki seatbelt simulator in schools, community events etc.
