Road Safety Strategies & Action Plans
National Strategy
The national Road Safety Strategy to 2010 provides direction for road safety in New Zealand and describes the results the government wants to achieve by 2010.
It sets out:
- The government's balanced approach to road safety using initiatives built around the three E's (Engineering, Educaiotn and Enforcement)
- The first stage of initiatives up to 2004
- The coordination, funding and other mechanisms that will be involved in implementing the strategy
- The priority areas that will be a focus for the government's road safety activity up to 2010
Road Safety to 2010 is seen as an important component in achieving the New Zealand Transport Strategy goal of an affordable, integrated, safe, responsive and sustainable transport system.
Regional Strategies & Actions:
- Taranaki Road Safety Strategy (2009-2012)
The Taranaki Road Safety Strategy (2009-2012) outlines the road safety priority areas identified by Roadsafe Taranaki partners in each district. The document also identifies contracted services that will contribute to the delivery of the road safety programme over the next 3 years. Delivery of these programmes is dependent on the development of appropriate programmes or services and the availability of suitable providers.
- Road Safety Action Plan (2009-2010)
The Road Safety Action Plan (2009-2010) for the Taranaki region aims to reduce the incidence and severity of crashes in the Taranaki region and to achieve a level of safety associated with land transport in the Taranaki region that is less than or equal to other councils in their respective peer groups. The Road Safety Action Plan is regularly updated throughout the year as existing projects are completed and new initiatives are developed.
