The Taranaki Business House Safety Challenge is held each year during Safety Week. Local businesses are invited to submit teams of up to 4 people participate in a range of practical safety challenges to test their safety knowledge and skills as well as their teamwork!
Activities focus on areas of home safety including fire safety, road safety, alcohol awareness, chemical handling and personal safety. The competition aims to highlight the links between workplace safety practice and home safety. Activities are run by local safety professionals from New Plymouth Police, Fire Service, Red Cross, Roadsafe Taranaki, Department of Labour and other organisations.
Teams are awarded marks for each of the 9 activities they complete and then take part in a quick fire safety quiz at the end. The winning team is awarded the New Plymouth injury Safe Business House Trophy.
Team numbers are limited to up to 9 teams. (Workplaces will be allowed to submit additional teams only if the nine places are not filled).
