Energyworks wins 2010 Business House Trophy
A team of four apprentices from Energyworks have won this year's Taranaki Business House Safety Challenge.
John Sutton, from the New Plymouth District Council team, safely deals with a kitchen fire at the Challenge event
Seven teams took part in the annual competition that tests local business employees knowledge and skills relating to home and road safety. The teams faced a number of practical, hands-on challenges including putting out a small kitchen fire, installing a child car seat and dealing with a first aid scenario. Each activity takes 20 minutes, and the teams completed a total of nine activities.
The event, which is held each year during safety week, is open to all Taranaki businesses and organisations and aims to raise awareness of how workplace health and safety knowledge can be used to improve safety practice in the home. The Challenge event also aims to build links between local safety organisations and workplaces.
Energyworks won this year's trophy, with two Ballance Agrinutrients teams coming in second and third place. Other organisations to submit teams included New Plymouth District Council, Shell Todd Oil Services and Powerco.
Organisations running activities at the event included ACC, Police, Department of Labour, Plunket, Red Cross, Taranaki Civil Defence, Sport Taranaki, Roadsafe Taranaki and NZ Fire Service. The event is held at the Taranaki HSE Centre, a purpose built training facility at Waiwakaiho Valley.
New Plymouth injurySafe would like to thank ACC for organising the event, Powerco for sponsoring morning tea and our wonderful safety groups who give up their time each year to run the practical safety challenges.
